Ollie-:

There are many variations on how to do the ollie, many people create their own special way of doing the ollie, I suggest you should do the same. Actually if you play close attention to how pros do their ollie you'll find it's different than how all the books and magazines tell you.

1) First get on your board, you should have your back foot on the tail and your front foot preferably on the first batch of bolts, but remember that it's up to you and the ollie won't work unless you feel comfortable on the board.

2)This is a very important aspect of the trick, bend down as far as you can while on the board, but it's important you feel like springing back up while in this position, it's best to warm up your muscles, this way when you do spring up you don't rip a vain or something.

3) Okay, so your on the board and crouching down. Now get ready to jump up into the air. Count to three and kind of bounce, once you reach three slam down onto the tail with your back foot and jump into the air. It's important that you suck your legs into your chest.

4) Extend your legs a little and kick sideways with your front foot, now a point a lot of people forget is that when you kick you should also drag, so it's like your doing a flying kick, but don't actually do a flying kick, just drag your front foot while keeping the back foot higher than the front.

5) You should now position your feet on the board and prepare for the landing, once you do land bend your knees so you  absorb the landing.

Note: Remember the ollie is a seriously hard trick, it took me a long period of time to learn it so be very patient. And if it helps try learning it on a rug or something, it stops the board moving to much which make you lose balance! Another point is when you crouch down, bend your KNEE'S only, not your back and all, I discovered today it gives a lot more pop!

Kickflip:-

  1. First off get into ollie position, but this time keep your front foot a off the edge of the board.

  2. Now ollie up, and when it comes to kicking sideways, don't, instead give a sort but sharp tap to the side of the board.

  3. This should spin the board, lift your legs up so it can do it freely and prepare for the landing.

  4. Catch the board in the right position, remember to anticipate where the board is going to be when you land, that way there's less chance of you landing it the wrong way round!

Note: If it helps when you catch the board slam down, it should increase your balance.

Heelflip:-

  1. Okay, again ollie position again, this is pretty much like the kickflip so read it before you read this!

  2. Now everything should be hanging off, your back foot should be half on the board and half off, your front should be off the board besides your heel (hence "The Heelflip").

  3. Now bend down to and SLAM hard down on the tail.

  4. Okay, important bit, with your heel kick the board like in the kickflip, so basically the heelflip is a kickflip while using your heel.

  5. Use the techniques in a kickflip as a guide on landing, good luck.

180 Ollie:-

  1. Okay, learn the ollie!

  2. Now practice turning 180 degrees OFF the board, remember to use your front foot to swing you round.

  3. Now ollie on your board.

  4. Use your front foot to swing the board round.

Note: Sorry if this doesn't help much but the thing is most tricks can't be taught, you have to learn them by your self, just remember the point's I've given to you and try finding your own technique incorporating the points, it helps with all tricks.

Boneless

The boneless is an old school trick but still it can be used today, 20 years ago a boneless was the equivalent to an ollie today.

  1. Fist of all get some speed on your board, not too fast though or you'll hurt yourself.

  2. Now bend down and grab the side of the board with either hand, try both and decide which one your comfortable with.

  3. This is the important bit, with the foot you push off with place on the ground, use the foot as a sort of pivot and lift the board up into the air with the hand you grabbed it with.

  4. Within a split second of completing what it says above lift your front foot on to the board and let go, (Note: Let go of the board whenever you feel comfortable).

  5. Once the front foot is on the board kinda jump on the board with your back foot.

  6. Land on the board hopefully while your still standing on it.

Note: There are so many variations of this trick it's next to impossible to give a standard version of it, it is very hard trick though, although to about 1/3 of people it comes as naturally as having a shit. Soon I'll be having pictures of how to do the tricks so keep checking back.

Boneless +'s

Like I said above this was the ollie of old school tricks, so it has stuff like 'Boneless Kickflip's. Here how to do them. (Read how to do the boneless

  1. Boneless Kickflip

  • While your lifting your front foot onto the board flip it with your hand and then catch it and land, sounds easy but is harder than an ollie kickflip, unless your one of the 1/3 that is.

OR

  • Once you have placed your front foot onto the board flip, and catch it and land. This way of the kickflip is basically almost impossible, EVEN if you are a 1/3 because it needs you to get a lot of height and have a lot of balance.

  2.  180/360 Boneless

  • First of all the 180, this is basically pretty easy once you've mastered the boneless, one you are using your front foot as the pivot you just turn 180o.

  • This is harder because if you turn 360 with your foot on the floor you will become disorientated and most probably fall over, best solution is to jump, turn 360 and carry on as normal.

Note: Actually doing a 180 Boneless feels more natural than doing just a normal boneless, so if your having trouble doing the boneless trying going up a slanted drive and do a 180 boneless and go back down.

No Comply:-

So what's a no comply, well it's another way of getting the board into the air without ollieing, it's no substitute though, however it's a bit easier and a lot more fun, plus when your learning grinds this will help you get the feeling of ollieing into a grind, so when you do attempt to ollie onto a handrail, you know what to expect.

  1. First of all you need a good speed, a hill is perfect as it will actually help give more height.

  2. Now, opposite to the ollie stand high on your board.

  3. Okay here's the important bit, with one motion, lift your back leg of the board, place it firmly on the ground, and with your front leg scoop the board off the ground, if you don't do this fast then it won't happen, remember the scooping action, like a semi circle.

  4. Your board should now be guided by your front foot, push it down towards the ground and place your back foot back on the ground.

Note: Much like the boneless doing a 180 no comply is easier and more natural. If your doing a grind, then once the board has reached whatever it's grinding is when you put your back foot onto the board.
